The Food Establishment Inspection Report is a weekly report that appears Sundays. Information is taken from reports provided by the Environmental Health Department, and individual reports can be viewed at its website, http://amarillo.gov/departments/community-services/environmental-health/foodinspections. A numerical grading system is now being used, with a score of 100 points being equivalent to zero demerits.

  • 100 points – No major violation at the time of inspection
  • 85 points – Considered an average score
  • 70 points or below – Requires re-inspection within 24 hours
  • COS – Corrected on site during inspection

These points correspond to the following letter grades:

  • A – 90 to 100
  • B – 80 to 89
  • C – 70 to 79
  • F – 69 and below

(B/83) Amarillo Fairfield Inn & Suites, 6600 W. I-40. Scrambled eggs and egg sandwiches on buffet line at improper temperatures; expired dates on cooked egg patties in refrigeration in kitchen; apples must be wrapped or tongs offered for serving; opened cheese and deli ham must be date marked; bucket of detergent stored in hand sink; sponge at three-compartment sink. (A/96) Chick-Fil-A, 4510 S. Coulter St. No paper towels at hand sink by drive-thru area. COS. Clean equipment stacked wet;pipe on right side under three-compartment sink not fully draining. Correct by 09/18.

(A/90) Chilis Grill & Bar, 5016 S. Coulter St. Bacon bits and tortilla strips out of date; sanitizer spray bottle not labeled; employee food stored in reach-in cooler with food used for service. COS. Sanitizer dispenser too strong; accumulation of debris on shelves storing clean equipment. Correct by 06/27.

(A/95) Donut Stop, 1905 S. Georgia St. Employee personal food and items must be stored in a designated area (repeat violation). COS. Dried food debris on top of dish washer. Correct by 07/01. Exposed wood on bottom shelf of prep table must be sealed (repeat violation). Correct by 09/19. Coving tiles missing or falling apart near front register and in boiler area (repeat violation); floor tiles coming loose in men’s restroom near drain (repeat violation); trash and debris in drain near east drive-thru window. Correct by 12/20.

(B/85) El Charro Mexican Food, 207 E. I-40. Steaks in refrigerated drawer under grill at improper temperature; raw chicken stored over cooked foods in walk-in cooler; several containers of food stored on floor in kitchen; fries and chicken strips in uncovered containers in reach-in freezer; bins of salt and sugar must be labeled. COS. Any container of detergent or sanitizer must be labeled; food handler certificates needed and must be maintained on premises; sanitizer buckets stored on floor (repeat violation); soiled wiping cloths left out on counters; melted, rough and damaged utensils in use. No Certified Food Manager; no food handler certificates; hand sink has been removed and must be re-installed; no three compartment sink; hand washing sign needed in employee restroom. Correct by 07/24.

(A/98) Fox Fast Stoop, 1901 S.E. 10th Ave. Sponge present and in use (repeat violation). COS.

(A/96) Georgia Manor Nursing Home, 2611 S.W. 46th Ave. Chlorine sanitizer bucket too strong (repeat violation): ice scoop stored on unclean surface. COS.

(A/91) Georgia Street Taphouse, 2001 S. Georgia St. No Certified Food Manager on site; no soap at two hand sinks in kitchen area and dish washing area. Correct by 07/08. Containers of food stored in sitting water in cooler in kitchen; condensate dripping onto food containers in walk-in freezer; debris and dust near dispensing opening on ice machine; knives not in use stored between prep tables where surfaces are not cleaned; dust accumulating on fan guards in beer cooler (repeat violation); dust accumulating on heat lamps between expo line and cook line (repeat violation); unshielded light bulb in vent hood in cooking area (repeat violation); several lights burned out in vent hoods (repeat violation); trash and food debris in area under beer taps behind bar. Correct by 09/22.

Chocolate syrup at room temperature; boxes of broccoli from morning delivery at room temperature; raw shrimp stored above lettuce in cooler; sanitizer tabs being used; sanitizer in bucket by bar too weak; many uncovered food containers in multiple coolers; single-use cups used as scoops; large tubs of powder not labeled; records needed for oysters. Some food handler certifications expired; mold build-up in ice machine; old food debris on shelves in walk-in cooler and dripping onto surfaces below; accumulation of dust on shelves above tea urns. Door sweep missing from back door; windows for drive-thru and walk-up window open and without a screen; heavy grease accumulation on vent hood filter; trash around outside of establishment must be put in dumpsters; toilet flushing slowly. Correct by 10/18.

(A/96) McDonalds, 400 E. Amarillo Blvd. Quaternary ammonium concentration too strong; box of frozen fries stored on floor of freezer. COS.

(B/88) Microtel Inn & Suites, 1501 Ross St. Eggs in container with melted ice at improper temperature; open containers of pool chemical an insecticide stored next to food; advisory needed reminding guests to use clean tableware upon each return to breakfast area; allergen advisory needed. COS. Written procedures needed for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events; no thermometer in cooler holding breakfast sandwiches and yogurt; no food thermometer on site; no sanitizer test strips. Sanitizer at three-compartment sink too strong; heavy accumulation of dust on shelves holding clean equipment; mold growth in ice machine. Correct by 06/24.

(C/76) Pancho Villa, 4601 River Road. Shredded cheese and cut tomatoes on prep table at improper temperature (repeat violation); shredded cheese and other RTE foods at improper temperature in white refrigerator in back room (repeat violation); rice and beans left out of hot or cold hold at improper temperature on counter; raw shell eggs and uncooked beef stored over RTE foods in kitchen refrigerators; spray bottle of chemical not labeled; improper air temperature in middle white refrigerator in back room; wet wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizer solution between uses; sanitizer solution container stored over food prep counter. Both make table cold hold units at improper temperatures; several bottles of sauce expired; proofed bread/damaged foods in walk-in freezer; spray bottles of chemical uncovered/missing lid or missing label; thermometers missing from both cold hold units in front; thawed food in walk-in freezer. COS. Certified Food Manager certificate expired; walk-in freezer unit not working; current invoice for servicing of grease trap must be provided. Correct by 07/05.

(A/96) Subway #44332, 1501 S. Coulter St. Chlorine sanitizing solution too weak in knife sanitizer station; food handling employee wearing bracelets. COS.

(A/90) Taco Bell #032693, 3309 S. Washington St. Time logs for food on line not being maintained; very heavy debris on drink dispenser nozzles (repeat violation); water pooling in walk-in cooler from hose. COS. Food debris on shelves holding single-service and single-use items; old food debris on several nonfood contact surfaces; one hand sink in kitchen slow draining. Correct by 07/01.

(A/93) Taco Bell #032595, 300 E. Amarillo Blvd. Heavy build-up of substance on soda machines (repeat violation). COS. Fryer not working. Correct by 07/11. Dust and debris build-up on containers (repeat violation). Correct by 09/19. A couple of employees did not have food handler certifications. Correct by 10/01.

(B/88) Taste of Thai, 1900 S.E. 34th Ave. Suite 1100. Several foods in walk-in cooler without date marks; several knives stored in dirty container near cook line; ice scoop next to drink dispenser in container pooling water. COS. Cooked pork and cut tomatoes in reach-in cooler at improper temperatures; several foods missing lids or protective wrappings; rice scoops stored in water at improper temperature; heavy grease build-up around fire suppression lines in vent hood and outer surfaces of vent hood (repeat violation).
