Netflix sometimes makes decisions that we don’t fully understand.

From taking away series that have been fan favourites on the platform to adding films that have pretty poor reviews, but its latest move has baffled many fans.

The streamer has reportedly made the decision to quietly cancel a new series before it even had a chance to be seen by viewers.

According to What’s On Netflix, the series would have been set to air last year but we are now in 2024 and there is still no sign of the show.

Despite production starting in 2022 and filming being completed – as per Deadline – Netflix has ‘shelved’ the urban fantasy series titled The Grimm Reality.

It’s thought the series would have focused on the 18th century folklore and fairytales by the Grimm brothers, and was produced by Wiedemann & Berg.

It was also set to star Hyuan Wanner, Patrick Isermeyer, Eidin Jalali and Dennis Schuermann.

Taking to Reddit, some disappointed viewers have been questioning why The Grimm Reality never made it to air.

One posted: “I wonder what the reason for such a decision is. They already spent the money, might as well air it.”

Another added their thoughts as they wrote: “Cannot understand this logic. Shoot series but refuse to air?”

A third shared: “Damn, cancelling before it even got a following. That’s a new one.”

A fourth person posted: “This is what gets me they have already cancelled great shows like Mindhunter to take a risk on new projects, I honestly can’t think of a new show they have released over the last year that I watched or thought was good.”

The Grimm Reality was created by the team behind another Netflix series, Dark, which has ran for three seasons and is a fan favourite.

Dark has been so highly praised that viewers are hailing it as the ‘best Netflix TV show’ they’ve ever seen.

The first season aired in 2017 and it’s still proving a huge hit with viewers hooked on the thriller.

The synopsis for season one reads: “When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids.

“The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town’s troubled history – whether they know it or not. The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986.”

So while we might never get a chance to know if The Grimm Reality would have been worth watching, it seems Dark could be worth exploring as your new favourite binge watch.
